When we are in the flow of creativity, there are few experiences that are more satisfying or meaningful. And when we have finished the process, we may well be astonished at “what came through us.” “Did I really write that?” “Did I actually sing those notes?” But to be ready for such moments, we need to do our homework—we practice our craft so that creativity has something to work with. This very much a gift from the Three energy. But this point also reveals the potential inner conflict between following our most authentic creative impulses or “giving the audience what they want.” The latter may work for a while, but often leads to creative shutdown. We will look at some examples of Three energy in music, film, and visual art, and consider the ways that Three energy can make us into a powerful vehicle for creative expression or a puppet to our need to be approved—no matter what our dominant type is.
