TOWARD PROGRESS IN ENNEAGRAM-BASED SCIENCE: PERSPECTIVES FROM THE BRAIN GROUP

In this session we will explore opportunities and challenges in bringing scientific methods and empirical approaches to study of the Enneagram, including investigation of Enneagram-based health care or behavioral interventions, and exploration of fundamentally empirical questions about the origins and operation of type and subtype. The session builds on the work of an ongoing interdisciplinary collaboration (the Brain Group), which seeks to spark scientific interest in specific aspects of Enneagram theory, and its potential application in building capacities for self-awareness and self-regulation. Our goal for this session is to engage participants, as a group of Enneagram experts, in further development of scientific priorities & approaches. In the process we hope to model the kind of multi-disciplinary collaboration that will be needed for engagement with the larger scientific community. Laura Baker, PhD, Professor of Psychology at USC, and David Daniels, MD, both members of the Brain Group, will participate as guest panelists.
