Is it ethical? Is it wise? is it even possible? Accurate typing of an individual's enneagram style is a complex balance of adequate knowledge, plenty of experience and an abundance of humility. It is not without its challenges and even the most experienced of teachers can make mistakes. We certainly have done our fair share of incorrect typing. We have also been involved in disagreement with our own assessment of our type and someone else's take on us.
In this presentation we would like to take a fresh, and hopefully useful, look at what we have learned around what works and does not work in typing people. Years of experience have made us look back critically, as well as with an open mind, at the often complicated and delicate process of identifying someone's Enneagram type.
Here are the main points we will cover in our presentation:
- What might be unethical with typing another person?
- Could it be wrong not to help someone clarify their dominant way of navigating through life?
- What to do with someone who just does not find his/her type even though it seems pretty obvious to other fellow Enneagram-students?
- Are we being too sensitive about the whole subject of our personality /ego- structure?
- Where does the responsibility of an Enneagram teacher begin and end when someone is clearly not 'standing at the right bus stop'?
It would be an honor to share some of what we've learned through decades of experience with our colleagues. Our own mistakes have helped bring us to a place of either more accuracy in typing others or withholding our view and allowing a person to do their own journey.
